The Emergency Support Committee for Refugees
The ESCR is a Hamilton-based registered charity that provides emergency loans and gifts to at-risk immigrants, refugees and other migrants.
A welcoming community where immigrants, refugees and all migrants find security and belonging.
As a member of the Canadian Council for Refugees (CCR), we participate in annual consultations and support the CCR's initiatives and projects.
We partner with other organizations to create and change policies that impact the lives of newcomers and migrants in Canada.
The ESCR's Chairperson spearheaded the Sanctuary City initiative, a project that sought to provide individuals with precarious status with access to municipal services.
As a result of these efforts, in 2014, Hamilton became one of only two cities in Canada to become a Sanctuary City.
